It grows upright with thick, rounded, slightly succulent leaves, and unlike many fast-growing stem plants, it's slow and low-maintenance, needing only occasional trimming to stay full. It tolerates a wide range of conditions and doesn't require CO2, though moderate to strong lighting brings out a coppery tint in the newer growth near the top. Trimmed cuttings root easily when replanted, making it simple to propagate more plants from one original stem.

At a Glance

Difficulty

Easy

Plant Type

Stem

Growth Rate

Medium

Lighting

Low-Medium

Height

8-16"+

CO2

Not Required

Origin

North America

Why We Like It for Bettas

Bacopa's thick, upright stems give bettas sturdy cover in the midground to background, and its slow growth means that cover stays put without much upkeep.
