Super Red Bristlenose Plecos (Ancistrus sp.) are a selectively bred color morph prized for their deep red to reddish orange coloration and dependable temperament. Their bold coloring provides strong contrast against green plants and darker substrates, making them a standout addition to planted aquariums without the size or aggression associated with larger pleco species.
Unlike many other plecos, bristlenose plecos remain relatively small as adults, making them suitable for a wide range of nano and mid size aquariums. Males develop characteristic bristles along the snout as they mature, while females typically have shorter or no visible bristles. They spend most of their time grazing on hard surfaces such as glass, wood, and décor, helping manage naturally occurring algae in the aquarium.
Super Red Bristlenose Plecos do best in established aquariums with stable water parameters, ample hiding spaces, and access to driftwood, which plays an important role in digestion and overall health. While primarily nocturnal, they often become active during the day once settled. Their peaceful nature makes them compatible with other calm community fish, including bettas when tank size and layout are appropriate.
These plecos are hardy and adaptable to a wide range of freshwater conditions. Ours are locally bred and well acclimated to captive environments, typically showing strong feeding response and smooth transitions into home aquariums. They readily accept sinking pellets, wafers, and fresh foods such as blanched zucchini and spinach. A varied diet supports proper growth, coloration, and long term health.
